Cardinal Project

I know everyone likes pics so I will start with them here.LOL
This is going to be the wifes "sheshack"

Well the camper is coming along nicely. This is our 1st camper.I purchased it for only $450.But it also came with over $300 in accessories such as 2 new tents, air mattresses, hot plates, cooking ware. chairs and a screen house that attaches to the trailer. It does need cables, as the rear of camper does not lift and was told it went up 1 foot and then snap and fell down. So just a bit of a project but otherwise could not be happier. Interior has the furnace,ac,stove, refrigerator, water heater and converter. It was obtained from someone who bought an estate and it was in the garage for awhile and they have no use for it.It is a 1992 Jayco Cardinal deluxe 8 Designer series.

Here are some pics the day it came home. Enjoy

So here she is after a good day of cleaning and wiping everything down. Very happy with the way it came out. I was very lucky and no mice damage even with side storage door missing. I will need a bit help finding the side door. Been watching ebay. May have to just make one for the time being. The inside of the camper did actually smell quite pleasant when we got it.

Started checking the systems. AC is running outstanding! VERY happy about that!! The trailer came with 2 propane tanks and they are actually full...bonus. Repaired the vanity top. Stove and furnace are operational.Converter operational but old and tired and we will replace eventually. It is only 15 amps.
I am having problems with the refrigerator not cooling. I have tried on 115 volts and on LP. It is heating up in the back but not cooling.I I do hear the "gurgling" in the back. The ice box is actually very warm. I have been running for 48 hrs and no change. Also it is perfectly level but no go. Anyone have any thoughts?

The fridge is a Dometic RM 2310

What kind of fridge do you have? I’m guessing Dometic.

Nice cleanup, by the way. Good for you!

Two axles - what a beast.

Well here is a pic showing I finally figured out the screen house and attachment to the camper. This as well was included with the camper and all the "party" lights. It is in very nice shape.

So I replaced all the light fixtures and added a new one with LED lights from amazon..

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It was a 5 pack for only$30.00 Very happy with them. I did buy the led conversion bulbs at first but the lumins were noticeably lower.

You have done a good job getting it road ready. What did you do to fix the lift cable? Looks like you got it up.

You may have to get a new fridge. Look into a regular residential fridge and maybe add some solar to keep it running. Do you plan to do a lot of boondocking? That may affect the fridge decision.

Replacement converter may not be a wallet buster. They can be purchased reconditioned from many manufacturers. Look at one with a 3 stage charger.

I ordered all new cables for all corners and main cable. Starting that project on Monday. To me personally it just makes sense to replace all of them. I have done maintenance all my life and have learned saving a $1.00 now will cost me $100 down the road.LOL

The fridge....Ya, I am thinking it is done. I don't do much boondocking so i will put something else in. Still want to trouble shoot it a bit farther.

The converter....I am thinking a 30 amp 3 stage. Are there any brands or models I should stay away from?

Also tomorrow I will be inspecting wheel bearings and brakes and probably replace bearings. No problems yet but I don't want any issues down the road and I don't know the care the previous owner put into them. Then I will be ordering all new tires soon.

Well, just finished inspecting plumbing and not so good. Found that the holding tank was missing and found one on ebay already. The water pump is cracked so they did not winterize it. and last but not least the water heater is cracked and does not hold water. So now I am thinking about a tanklesss water heater. Any thoughts on this?

I think something is missing here.LOL

Years ago we had a three way fridge stop cooling. A friend removed it and "rotated" it (turned upside down and back) and reinstalled it and it worked perfectly. He said the refrigerant had become blocked and turning it over cleared the blockage. Just be careful with the gas connection!

PD 4135 35 Amp Power Center

I am thinking about getting this converter. The reviews seemed good. Anyone have any thoughts on this one?

Well the project continues. Found the wood is rotted along the roof so I will be rebuilding the roof from scratch. I was going to use 2x3 to make the roof a bit stronger and put in better insulation. Wife wants to put in new flooring and glam it up a bit...Pics and videos to follow

Hello, I recently bought the same camper so I was wondering if you have any info on lighting the furnace?
