cassette toilet

I have a thetford cassette toilet and the manual says to use aqua rinse. Is there something else I can use that is easier to find?

When we had our PUP with cassette, we used Aqua Kem. It can be purchased at camping world and RV dealers. Some use Campa Kem which can be purchased at Walmart. Aqua Kem came with the PUP, we just stuck with it.

We have the combo shower/cassette potty in our POPUP and use the small blue tablets that drops in from WALMART..

Have never had any odors with our setup since purchased in late 2008. The potty gets used alot but the sit down shower has maybe only been used one or two times. Wasted space for us with the combo version unit.

The only place to set down is on the potty then you have to ask yourself do I want the lid up or down...

I also have the combo. The aqua rinse is supposed to go in the upper tank for when you flush the toilet, not in the holding tank. I was just wondering what else I could use for the flushing fluid.

When we had a cassette toilet we just used water. After each trip I would use a little bleach in water to clean out both the holding tank and the flush reservoir.

Sounds like there may be two liquids in question here, the "flush" liquid and the liquid that goes in the cassette to aid in breakdown and odor reduction.

The best way to know for sure is to consult the manufacturer, especially regarding different models and whatnot, but here's what they basically say: flush with water, other chemicals can damage the lip seal. Don't leave water in the bowl, it does not reduce odor. And finally, they recommend Aqua Kem in the cassette, and so do I after using a competing product from West Marine.

The manual calls for the aqua rinse in the flush water but I just can't find it anywhere other that from some European websites. I'll talk to my local RV dealer and see what they say.

Hi there, I did a bunch of research and finally found that Aqua Rinse is a water treatment product used in England (Thetford's home) and across Europe because their water isn't treated like our water in the U.S. In the U.S., you can skip the Aqua Rinse step and fill with water only or, as some users do, add an ounce or two of AquaKem to the water for freshening...but it's really not necessary. Also, Thetford does not produce a U.S. user's manual for the cartridge toilets, so there are some things that get lost in "translation." Based on my research, I basically re-wrote their manual to finally wrap my brain around how that cassette works (first-timer)!

Thanks for the info. I pretty much gave up on it and I just use some odor control liquid in the holding tank and straight water for flushing and it works fine.
