cassette toilet

New here and to Jayco but I have a cassette toilet in the used(2006) select 12 HW i just purchased. It has a curtain. Is it supposed to have a top of some kind. It has a board about 3" wide the full width along the wall that appears to have holes from a hinge. Could I make a fold down top? what material would be best as it also has a shower. Thanks for any help.

Does the shower curtain attach to a "loop" type track up on the roof? If the shower curtain goes completely around you, any MDF type material with a Melamite(?) coating would work. Something water resistant. If the cover is always going to get wet while showering, you'll want something waterproof. Seems our old Viking PUP had a cover over it, like wood grained vinyl over fiberboard, and it always wanted to close, At the WRONG time, if you know what I mean!

the curtain does go completely around had not thought about the closing at the wrong time. Maybe a latch to hold it open would work,

A latch is a good idea. We only had that PUP for one season, so didn't make a lot of mods to her. Sounds like a piano hinge would work for fastening to the board on the wall. Good luck with her!

Here are photos of a 2005 with a shower.

2005 Jayco Select 12HW, Chanhassen MN - - RVtrader.com

Our Viking also had a shower but it did have a top. The same material as the countertop but had a vinyl or laminate underneath. The lid was held up by a piece of canvas doubled and sewn together about 2 to 3 inches wide about 2 to 3 feet long with one end screwed into the side of the roof and the female portion on the snap on the canvas. The male end was mounted on the underside of the lid. We never had any issues with it coming down on us when using the shower. When we were done with the shower I would gather the curtain in the corner and was able to close the lid ( unsnapping of course). It made the area more open.

That looks just like mine but mine is a 2006 and I purchased it yesterday for $1350 and I put 2 new tires on it for 250. I know that is a deal. That is what he was offered in trade.
