Complete Roof Replacement

Seems like I've read thousands of posts on lots of forums about these roofs and I want to build mine from scratch using the original measurements except for height. Instead of 1 x 8 sides I would rather go with 1 x 10's. I feel like this would give that little extra space when closing. On my 1985 Jayco I have a hard time getting the roof to close those last 1-2 inches and have read where lots of pups are like this. I have checked the lift system and all is good there. I don't plan on using any of the aluminum as it will be completely covered with Grizzly Grip or Rhino Liner Eco.

Would love to hear your comments and suggestions.
