Converter

If I can get power to all my plugs but lights only work when hooked to battery mean my converter is toast

It is a very likely the converter is bad.

There is a circuit breaker that feeds the converter/charger in the panel. Have you attempted resetting it?

There may be a fuse in your converter that blew. Check that before getting a new one.

Did you put a tester across the battery terminals to check if there was a charge coming out of the converter? Should be about 13.4-13.6V with a draw or lower battery. If a smart charger then as high as 14.4V if in full charge mode. Does the fan kick on when multiple lights are turned on? If not any of the above and only mid to low 12V readings then most likely you will need a new converter.

What year is the Jayco?

IOTA were the main units installed until 2009/10 or so then the new smart charge Progresives became the norm.

If you need a new one in the end look to install a smart charging one which will maintain your batteries much better and longer.

Stuart, you are being led down many paths here. All, I am sure, are with the best intentions. Let's approach this methodically and logically.

Please correct me if I have misunderstood any of the facts you have given here. And from the other threads you have started about this same issue.

1. You state that when you are connected to the battery the lights work. If that is so then the battery in-line fuse, the converter main battery fuse, the reverse polarity protection fuse and the fuse for the lighting circuit are all good.

2. When you disconnect the battery and connect to the shore power your lights do not work. Your 120V outlets do work. Then the main AC breaker in the converter is OK. You stated that you have reset the breaker that is for the converter/charger. The breaker COULD be bad but that is highly unlikely. Now, there is probably a fuse located on the circuit board of the converter electronics. This is not typically a user replaceable fuse.

If you feel comfortable doing so you might remove the circuit board from the converter and see if you can locate this fuse. If it is, in fact, blown there was likely a failure of the circuit board itself that caused it.

Now you have two choices: A) Replace the converter. B) Have the circuit board repaired.

I hope this has cleared up the possibilities that exist and what is not possible.

New to me 1996 Jayco Eagle 10

I received this jayco from my brother in-law and it had needed a lot of work to make road worthy and up to my safety standards which are very high.

So I have a power Question... I have a brand new deep cycle marine battery on pop-up... I have the switch set to Battery and the only things that seem to be working are the overhead lights and the light outside by table area.. Should I expect that will be the only items that will work or should the few electrical outlets in the camper work also?

It does have one of those little Fridges in it also but I am not even sure where the power switch is for it. I could use a manual I guess.

Need a new door or frame help at least with current one, just doesn't line up correctly at the top have about a inch opening on right side. Nothing that a piece of duck tape can't fix so bugs can't fly in at night.

Any answers would be helpful..

John

Was it a fuse behind the panel? I'm having the same issue in a '96 1406. I'm assuming we have the same or similar converter.
