Fresh water tank drain

I have not used the water tank yet but am planning to on the next trip. Just got this one a few weeks ago and was checking the tank out. I understand how to fill and was wanting to clean and chlorinate the tank and could not find the drain petcock. Finally found it by crawling under the camper on the opposite side of fill connection. Cannot believe Jayco put the drain under the camper so you have to physically crawl under it to drain the tank. Has any one tried to remove the petcock and install a fitting for a tube to extend it to the side of the camper?Would hate to break it and not be able to use the tank.

My 2004 25E has the drain in the middle of the tank and a hose that extends to the side with a drain valve installed Not sure if it was that way when new or if previous owner installed it. I'll see if I can post a pic.

Don't see how this could break it. Our 1007 drain is on the same side as the filler, and is very awkwardly located behind the leaf springs. Don't have to crawl under, but it isn't easy to crane your hand in there blind. My unit is at the dealer now to have the petcock replaced; stuck open after 8 years of use. We use the water tank every trip. Maybe I should do the same conversion.

Pretty clear photos - thanks!
Was thinking that it would be worth adding a shielded bracket like they use for the gas fitting under the outdoor stove. I would worry a bit about how the hose hangs so free in this photo. Perhaps a quick zip tie to get it out of the way of road debris?

I would recommend a metal valve if you can find one. Those plastic ones don't last long.

If it is like mine, it exits the center of the tank, so you could move it to the other side. I have been concerned about breaking off the plastic valve. friend did just that going down a 30 mile gravel road. He figures he kicked up a stone and hit it just right. When he got to camp it was pouring water out. By the time he figured out how to stop it, his tank was dry.
