Fridge Questions

G'day Folks

We have recently purchased a 2005 Outback Eagle, having had a Tvan for five years previously. All went very well on a shakedown trip to Sal****er Creek NSW for a week, but I have some (probably very basic) questions about the fridge operation.

The impression I got from the manual is that the fridge should not be operated on either gas or 240V with the roof and bed ends closed. My question centres on the best way to have the fridge cold for a trip, or more simply, is it OK for the fridge to be operated on 240V with everything closed up, on the night before departure? This would be after having run it on gas for a couple of days while preparing and packing for the trip.

Our onboard battery is charged via Anderson plug. If we stop to sightsee for any period of time during a day's travel, is the usual practice to disconnect the Anderson plug, and depending upon ambient temperature, either just re-connect when heading off again, or open up the roof a little and operate on gas for however long we are away. The dealer suggested this latter option but it sounds dodgy to me, if only because of security issues.

Hope the questions aren't too dumb.:

Cheers
John

I believe your fridge should operate on 110V. Not knowing the location from your profile I can't be certain where you are located. Your fridge should convert from gas to electric on its own, plug into shore power when you have it, use gas when you don't. Hope that helps

Hi Goannalong! I don't have an Outback so don't know of the questions you ask. Hopefully others here can share their experiences with theirs. Welcome to the Jayco Owners Forum!

My experience with older model fridges and pop ups has been that fridges vent to the outside so it is not an issue. There should be a vent on top of the panel you open to select which power option (The options should be 120v, gas, or 12v), check that vent when it is on and you should feel heat coming out. If it truly vents like that then you should have no issues with needing to open the top or anything. Again I havent had new stuff but that works on the older stuff.
