Question Furnace operation questions (no problems..yet)

Now that the weather will permit us to use the furnace, I'm going to 'fire it up' (at home/driveway test) for the first time since we've owned our pup.

I'm curious with these questions...
1. How does it ignite? Electronic ignition? Or is there a pilot light that I need to light?

2. Is the fan 12v or AC operated?

Sorry- don't have any furnace model info or pics (I'm at work).

2000' 8U Qwest pup.

Every modern furnace I have seen has been electronic ignition. You should just be able to turn it on and go. If you have not purged the air in the gas line, you might have to turn the thermostat off - wait a few minutes - and turn it back on since it will stop trying after a few failures.

It is 12 volt operated and is one of the more power hungry devices on your camper.

Also - be forewarned - new units put off quite a smell and even some smoke when you start them up. Same thing may go for a unit that has not been on for a while while it burns up all those dead spiders and bugs and whatever else.

WAYYYYYY to early for a heater :0 It was in the upper 90s just a few days ago here!

Thanks for the heads up on form and function. Too early? Its supposed to be 40 here tonight- and a for the next few nights. It was 90+ here monday!

I expect the funrace to be stinky...It dosen't appear its ever been run in the ten years this unit has been built. No discoloration of the interior heat shields and no soot/carbon marks on the outside vents. I did clean out a few small wasp nests out of the exterior vents after we bought it, but the inside (what I can see) was clean.

Let us know how it does....I had a buddy that had a camper where the furnace had not run in 10 years...it fired right up amazingly enough.

There should be full instructions right on the heater as you take the cover off. turn on the gas purge the air turn on the thermostate all the way up. Wait 5 min turn the Knob to pilot light and hold for 60 sec and hit the electronic ignition. Don't be surprised if it takes a few times, or 20 times for that matter. Mine is a little older and sometimes it takes 5 tries, and sometimes it takes 20. But it always gets up and running

Heater fire-up was a total success! Other than a little furnace stink, it was uneventful. It got **** hot, real quick, and was a tad noisy, but it works. If we need it (supposed to be warm this week) it'll be plenty toasty inside.
Yay!
