General Question About Batteries

Hi,
I just picked up my first Pop up and am ignorant about the battery. My pop up was wired for a battery but did not include one. I went and bought a deep cycle battery and am ready to install it, but have a couple of questions.

Do most people put their battery in one of of the plastic casings and then mount on the a-frame?

Do you lock up the battery when not in use - Do people steal batteries?

I connected the white and red wires, do I need to hook the ground wire to the trailer frame?

Do you leave the battery connected when not in use?

Do you need to turn your 3-way fridge to a certain setting if you leave your battery hooked up? (to either insure the fridge is or is not running?

If your battery is hooked up, and you plug the camper in, does the battery recharge? (i do not have it wired to recharge from my towing vehicle)

Any other basics about battery maintenance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have 2 cents worth....

- Battery boxes come in many types. You can attach the box to the tongue or a tongue rail straddle kit. It's usually a good idea to drill drain holes in the bottom of the box

- Desperate people steal batteries - and the easy mark gets stolen first. If you store your TT in a high risk area....Tape a sign on it that says "shorted out"

- Always disconnect your battery for storage. Install a switch, quick disconnect, or pull the fuse.

- Assuming you have a Norcold 3-way Fridge (propane, 120V, 12VDC) there should be an "Off" setting for the selector.

- Connecting to shore power should recharge your battery - but since your battery was not dealer installed - you should refer to your owners manual for wire identification and any further steps that may be required to route charging voltage to the battery connections.
