Smile Hot Water and Gas stove issue

Hey Guys... New guy on th block.. Have a 1992 1406 biggest popup that Jayco made/tandem and all the rimmings. Bought it from a guy whose Dad had purchased new in 1992.. Gentlemen died two years later and had only used it 3 times. His son put it in an airplane hanger and there it has been since I bought it in June. It is brand new.

Anyway, everything works except I cannot seem to get propane flow to the water heater and the stove. You hear a surge when you turn the tank on and the gas tank is full. Is it possible the regulator went bad over the years sitting? It's a 2 stage regulator.

Any help would be appreciated and I'm glad for a forum like this!

Dave. North Carolina...

That sounds likely. I don't think a new regulator would cost much. You're sure that you've purged all the air from the gas lines?

Nope, don't know how to do that...We are on site in Boone, NC and the bathouse is just a skip from our site, so really don't need it, but wanted to get it running anyway! Thanks for the input...Dave

Turn on the stove and keep trying to light it. Same with the water heater. If it doesn't light in 20-30 sec I'd strongly suspect the regulator. If you open a stove burner can you hear the gas escaping? If not it might also be the valve on the tank connecftion. If the tank valve is opened too quickly that valve can close and you get no gas in the line (it's a broken line protection thingy). The valve is in the green handled connector and can sometimes be reset by whapping the valve against something solid (use a piece of 2x4). If you've got no gas (listen for the flow) at the stove then I'd bet on the regulator or the valve.

Pilot needs to stay on all the time and the main burner cycles on and off when called for by the thermostat. Look at the thermocouple where its sticks into the flame. Sometimes cleaning it with a small piece of 240 grit sand cloth will help. Also make sure the pilot flame is blowing on it sufficiently.
