How old can you be and still enjoy a pop up camper?

I'm 67...and still roughing it in my '92 jayco 1006 pop up. It's getting harder each year to put 'er up but my wife and I still give 'er. Anyone out there who's older and still uses a pop up camper? I'd be curious to know.

We had friends who finally quit camping in their pop-up at 82 and they even did the International Rally every year.

I think you're going to have to make that determination yourselves as there's no definitive answer to your question. However, if you can afford to replace the pop-up with something that has a full bathroom along with improved security/durability (no canvas), kitchen and more storage, I would think you could be happy campers again for some time. I'm only two years than you and don't plan to stop camping anytime soon unless something life-changing happens.

The DW, I and our two sons camped in a pop-up for 14 years. When they became adults and stopped camping with us, we moved to a TT. We thought we died and went to heaven when we moved from a tent to the pop-up, but we died and went to heaven all over again moving to the TT.

In your post, you come across to me that in your heart you want to continue camping. I say, don't stop camping, just change the way you camp.

My sons tell us that with the TT we're not camping. I reply, "You're right. We're RVing.". The conversation topic then changes.

I'm with @FPM_III.

We too worked our way up the scale from tents. I was only 54 when we graduated to an HTT. The driving force was kids gone and DW didn't want to have to unload and reload everything every time we camped. My back also thanked me for the decision.

We are camping more and more, so having everything (pretty much) in its place when we arrive makes the experience more enjoyable. We went with a Hybrid because we still get the experience of sleeping under canvas, and there is so much more living space in a small form factor since the beds don't take up any of the base floor space (similar to a pup in that way).

With a full bath, those middle of night runs to the bathroom are a lot easier, especially on freezing cold nights.

When DW reaches retirement in a few more years, we'll probably step up a bit farther to a full hardside couples trailer. Still plan to stay half-ton bumper pull range.

X3 on moving up. We hated crawling over someone to get in and out, the mess and bother or up and down. 195RB has a queen size walk on both sides bed! And a bath with a light at night. Hardly ever get a mosquito now, always found a way in the canvas and flimsy door. A little more security and a lot more privacy.

We can stop and get a snack or lunch on the road. Park anywhere safe and legal on a trip with water and black storage aboard. A fridge that works while traveling. etc


But you might want to add a lifting motor for the top if the Viagra doesn't help.

Just for the humor of it. Give a kid at the campground a couple of bucks to crank it up for you. He'll love you for it, and have money for the arcade games to boot! Just sayin'.....
