Broke in our "new to us" Jayco Qwest 8U last weekend up at Doheny State Beach and with temperatures dropping into the low 40s at the beach, we decided to run our heater before heading to bed. All was great and everyone was warm until the LP Detector alarm started beeping in the middle of the night. I quickly turned the heater off, smelled for gas (none detected) and killed power to get the beeping to stop. A short while later I turned the power (DC) back on (no alarm at this point), turned the heater back on and within a few minutes the alarm went back off. I repeated my earlier steps of shutting the heater down and turning power off and decided that we'd survive a few more hours without heat.
How accurate are these sensors (2004 model) and can they be tested? Is it possible that the fumes from the heater are causing the alarm to go off and there's actually no gas leak? Earlier that night we were able to run the desktop stove for 20+ minutes and no alarm.
We bought a brand new TT last September, 2011. It's a 2012. In September of 2012 our detector started going off too. We would turn it off and on again and a few minutes later it would go off again. No gas and no smoke smells. It's a hybrid and we had all the doors, windows and bunk ends open so it was PLENTY ventilated.
We brought teh unit in, they replaced the detectoe and all is well now.

I would check the sensor for an expiration date. If it is original to your 2004 model, it is probably past it's expiration date.
If the date is not on the front of the detector take it out of the wall and look on the back. My 2012 started doing the same as another poster reported and the dealer replaced it. The current one has performed as intended.

The detector was indeed expired. Found a good deal on a replacement that has gas and carbon monoxide detection. Now to find a little time to install and test.
If your battery is low the detectors will chirp. If the alarm is going off it sounds constantly.

Lysol, and many aeasol sprays will set of the LP monitors due to the propellants in the cans. Not good to spray near this as you can damage the sensor.
My heater will set off my alarm if I have not used it in awhile. I turn on my heater and take the batteries out of the detector and let it run for 20 minutes. It always acts nice after!
