Need new battery, what should I get?

Our 2010 Jayco 1007 needs a new battery so I'm heading to Wal Mart this weekend. I know I'm supposed to get a "deep cycle" type, AKA marine battery, anything else I should be aware of? And can I use a regular trickle charger to charge it up?

The more amp hrs the better it should be charged when you get it and yes a trickle will keep it topped off.

that is like asking a car guy what oil to use. You'll get a lot of answers. In reality it really matters how you use the camper. If you are always at a CG with electrical power, then all you need is small simple cheap dual purpose marine battery. If you like to be off the grid for extended periods, then a true deep cycle is better. If you really like being off the grid and have heavy power needs, then dual 6V golf cart batteries are better yet.

Dual purpose batteries are not nearly as good for RV use as a true deep cycle. Dual purpose batteries are designed for a quick discharge which is needed to start an engine. If I recall correctly the lead plates need to be thinner, to accomplish this task. Where as the true deep cycle have much heavier plates, hence a slower discharge, and more storage capacity. Next DC RV batteries come in different classifications, typically group 24 is what comes with most campers originally. Group 27 is a bit larger, group 32 is bit stronger and holds more charge.

Deep Cycle and Marine are NOT the same. Marine is a compromise, as it is a starting battery also. Walmart does have pure deep cycles. Look for the letters "DC" in the name, as in 24DC, or 29DC, etc.
