Need new tires.

My original tires on my Designer 12F5 are cracking. Time to replace them
But with what? Original tires are Goodyear Marathon Radial ST185/80R 13 C tires. But there were some bad reviews on these. What else would be a good choice. I don't want the Carlisle brand.

They seemed to be good tires for you. It's been my experience that the Marathon tires have had problems with heavier rigs. Having said that, I had Marathons on my previous heavy 5er and got 6 "good years" out of them.

There was a picture of a blown out tire on the walmart website. But I think it was on a dual axle camper. We bought our camper used and I am guessing the tires are original. The last two years I've had to get new valve stems put in because the tires went flat over the winter. But last year I noticed they were cracking pretty good.

Yea, part of the problem with some bad reviews on tires is you usually don't know if the owner took good care of the tires. Like keeping the pressure at correct levels and covering the tires when not in use. Or the age of the tires when the problems occurred because some folks think trailer tires are "good" as long as their is good tread.
Having said all that, I'm surprised you haven't gotten more feedback on this thread. Maxxis and Michelin are two of the top brands that almost always have good reviews. Sometimes hard to find a dealer for Maxxis and sometimes not available in all sizes but those are two excellent brands.

I've done searches for 185ST/80R 13 C and none of those other brands show up. Carlisle comes up and some other generic brands. I even asked my Firestone dealer about trailer tires and he said they don't offer any. Walmart has the Marathons for $73 ea. But not in stock at any local stores. So, I would have to order them online and have someone put them on.

discounttiredirect...

Carlisle

Radial Trail RH

ST185 /80 R13 94M C1 BSW $52.85

Maxxis Tire

M8008 ST

ST185 /80 R13 94 C1 BSW $76.36

Goodyear

Marathon

ST185 /80 R13 C1 BSW $76.94 out of stock but likely to be in stock in a week or so...

If you can wait 3 weeks or so they will have a rebate sale usually up to $100 off a set of 4..

after you get them delivered you can go to any discount tire and have them mounted for the regular discount tire cost... IIRC it is like $20 +/- per tire...

Also heard they Maxxis tires were very good. So I asked a question on amazon and got some good comments. I'll probably go with the Maxxis when I am ready. But when I first searched for them on amazon they were only $63. Then after I asked a question they went up to $74. Now 2 weeks later they are $86. It's funny how after some activity on amazon the prices have gone up. Do you think they monitor who is searching for certain items and raise their prices according to the amount of activity?

you would be surprised on how much Amazon monitors things. leave them in your cart for awhile. they should drop in price.
