new roof 1207

Hello everyone new to this forum. im looking for info on how much weight the cables on a 1996 jayco 1207 can lift. the reason is i just bought this camper and the roof is shot my thoughts are if the cable can handle it i would make the frame out of light weight metal instead of wood. the weight would be a bit more than double the factory roof.

To be honest, I would be rebuilding the winch system too if I were you. Those cables are 20 years old; it is highly unlikely they will support the kind of weight they did when they were specified brand new.

You might also want to think carefully about the CCC of your pup. That extra weight in the roof will take away from the cargo capacity available in the trailer, which is generally pretty modest in a pup to start with.

Thanks and yes I will be putting all new cables in. As I am finding it hard to find the info I'm needing I am leaning towards just going back wood just better wood than they built it with just redoing it should Outlast the ownership that I will have on this trailer I do find it hard to believe that they use chipboard anywhere in this roof as that stuff does not stand up to any moisture at all
