New to Pop Ups

Hi Folks:

I am picking up a 1993 Jayco Cardinal pop up on Saturday. I have always had a class C or A motorhome. I was looking for some towing advice. I have a 2012 Nissan pathfinder, I was just wondering what kind of ball hitch I need, also the trailer connection, I suspect it is a 4 connection on the older models.

Lastly, from my reading you do not use electric brakes with these as they have hydraulics? Please let me know if there is anything else I should know.

Thanks,
John

I also have a 1993 jayco. Mine has the standard 2" ball hitch and comes with surge brakes. Cannot remember at this time my trailing connection. Hope this helps

If you are mechanically inclined and can swap out the axle for one with electric brakes, I would look into it. I had surge brakes on 2 Jayco popups. They were marginally useful and the master cylinders are prone to failure. Short term, replace the plastic master cylinder cap with a metal one. The plastic ones leak water when it rains.
