new to this forum and pop up campers as well

i recently purchased a 1983 jayco j pop up camper ,never owned a pup before so what i want to know is : this pup has a pump on the sink,how do i operated this to adiquately get water to use,and another question this camper has a ceiling light with a car bulb inside,has a 2 plug wall outlet and a fuse box,can 't find a battery or converter,has two wires a black and a with wire in c channel on a frame ,can anybody here expalin to me how to hook the water up to run the sink for washing dishes,and how to actually hook up a battery to run the inside lights if i decide to go boondocking?

The BLACK wire should go to the POSITIVE 12VDC terminal and the the WHITE should go to the NEGATIVE 12VDC terminal. I would check it out just to be sure.. Hand trace the white wire back and see if it actually connects to the trailer frame just a foot or so away from the where the battery will be installed.

I was an avid tent camper from the 50's on and finally got an OFF-ROAD POPUP setup in 2008 with all the modern things on it. Was thinking I would have got away from being back off the roads but still want to camp the most off the power grid. Gets in your blood I guess...

Check this link out for your trailer - they post a bunch of manuals for the older POPUPS - might have yours..

Search google using your year and model number - I see several hits on the 1983 model.
NOTE: I just came back from the above link and did see a 1983 MANUAL listed in PDF format - didnt go look at it but it might have some good info for you - maybe even a simple wiring diagram -

Not sure how valid this is for 1983 models but this is a typical electrical layout and water flow diagram. If you trailer is good shape you can at least start making additions if you dont have to get to something similar to this...




Of course your trailer probaly does not have the shower so don't worry about that...

This is how my POPUP is layed out showing where all my appliances and other items are located. Not a whole of room inside the popups so shouldnt be hard to locate things,



On your sink the way mine works is I fill up the fresh water tank and then I turn on a PUMP switch. The PUMP runs from 12VDC from my onboard converter or connected battery.

If you are connected to city water than you do need the pump or filled freshwater tank. The city water will provide the water at the sink with its pressure.

Jerry - As you are probably aware all of your posts on these forum immediately gets posted to GOOGLE. Our old popup (1993 Palomino) did not have a 12v water pump. It had a hand operated diaphragm pump that doubled as the "faucet". The pump was mounted on the sink, had a small diameter spout and a black plastic T-handle that you would work to suck the water up from a small 10 or 15 gallon water tank.
