New To Us 1996 Jay 1006

Good morning all!

Memorial Day weekend we were tent camping with some friend of ours who have a nice little trailer. Someone came into our site and asked if anyone wanted a free pop up. We went and looked at it, and it's in rough shape, but the bones seem to be good.

I'm already planning on ordering a new canvas from Bear Creek, and I'm going to get some Eternabond tape for the roof, as it's currently taped up quite a bit, but it is still leaking. I've still got a couple of questions.

1. After taping the obvious bad parts of the roof, I'd like to re-seal it as there are other parts where the white has come off. What is recommended for this? I'm looking at either a bedliner or the ProGuard Liquid Roof, but I'm not sure if my roof is EPDM. Should I refinish before or after the Eternabond?

2. The canvas has a couple leaks in the front area. The canvas was sprayed on the inside with FlexSeal and duct taped, but it is still leaking. Any suggestions on what we can do to waterproof it until the new one arrives? I'm not overly worried about the looks, just as long as it still closes up.

3. Do we have a quality site for parts? I've been looking at popupparts.com, but it sounds like they may not be the most reputable. I already found a broken lift cable, which I know I can buy a spool of cable (does anyone know if the 1996 was 3/32 inch cable?) and fittings for it, but it also looks like I can get the 4 curved corner brackets from popupparts for about $100, and many of the videos I've watched online make it seem like those (at least the pulleys) go bad pretty often.

4. Does anyone know the difference between the 1006 and the 1006 ST RD? I've Googled it but can't find an answer, and when i called Jayco to help find my VIN, they couldn't tell me unless I gave them a VIN from both so they could compare them.

Happy camping!!!

Welcome! Wow, what a project you have there. Good thing you got it for nothing. Are you sure you have a broken lift cable? It is not uncommon for water to get in the corners and rot the wood where the ratchets are mounted. It may very well be that one corner is rotted and the ratchet has pulled away from the floor.

I found a broken cable under the dinette. Of course, it's the front passenger side, so it's opposite of the dinette, so it's a nice long cable.
