Removable Shelving

I have done a few modifications but am looking for a suggestion or two on the best way to put in a removable shelf on top of one of the cabinets.

I put my plastic drawers on the cabinet, that is 3 feet tall and then would like to have a sturdy shelf on top that goes the width of the cabinet for coffee maker etc.

I was thinking something with a wood frame, but I would need to take it down to fold the pop up too.....

Thoughts?

What about using the same type of hardware/legs of your table to mount on top of that cabinet? You could cut the legs to the height of your plastic drawers and make a top out of wood.

I would consider making a shelving unit out of 2X2s and 3/8 inch finish plywood to your own dimensions and needs.

I saw one at bed-bath for $10 31 inches long two shelves. but made out of heavy and not durable pressed wood A lot better to build it yourself out of real wood.

Has anyone tried something as simple as stacking a few of these? I’ve got hanging shelves over the toliet cabinet and couch but need to better utilize the space around the sink and stove.

My wife found an idea on pinterest where we purchased Tension Shower Curtain Rods, and Rubbermaid Shelving . I used hose clamps for the bottom end where the rod would need to go in, and then screwed the Shelving piece to the top. I used epoxy and put Rod end holders on the counter and the ceiling and it looks something like this pic. I don't have a picture of it specifically but I put 1 behind the sink like this and also another set on the cabinets like you are talking about.

They take me about 5-10 to put up and work great

We ended up using some old wooden laundry room cabinets to make more storage in our tent trailer. I ended up picking 2 that I stacked on top of one another (the bottom one had 2 doors, the top only one with a shelf beside. It was great for storing food and other kitchen stuff. The cabinets were bolted together (easily removable wing nut). It was nice and sturdy, a great addition for the limited storage in the trailer.

I could take them apart in about a minute and they fit nicely on the floor under the couch/sink when we folded it down. I just had to be careful what I stored in the double cabinet because it was on the floor on it's back, but it was great for cereals, bread, cookies, crackers, marshmallows, etc.

I'll try and dig up some pictures this weekend of it.
