I have a thicker white wire and an orange with what looks like a ground bundled with it
Is the white positive?

Great question, because it does differ depending on what codes you look at, and type of application.

In the case of RV 12V systems, the White wire is ground (negative) and the Black wire is hot (positive).

Not stupid at all! Color codes on RVs and trailers are quite different! Dealing with DC power for quite some time, it took me a while to get used to the black being (+) -- but be careful - if anyone else has done mods to the trailer, you never know what color code they may have used.

I always check the polarity with a voltmeter just to make sure I remember which color is which. As was said above, you never know what mod's may have been made or, as in my case, is my memory correct.

Sorry I cannot help with your question BUT will say that anytime I am playing in my RV and testing wires any 12+ wires I find I mark with red tape... since an RV is more car than house I figure Red+ is a better way to make them..
