Synthetic winch cable

Hi All,
My main winch cable has shat itself on a Jayco Hawk and needs to be replaced.
Has anyone had experience with using synthetic winch cable instead of steel cable? I have 30M of 5mm winch cable rated at 3500kg I would like to use.

Cheers

Haven't tried it myself, but was the in "thing" a few years ago. I did hear you could not use it with a roller fairlead.

I've installed it now - waiting for the roof to fall on my head - so far so good

It sounds like it's for the cables on a pop up.

Welcome to the Forum from Western New York State! I hope it works out for you, but wearing a crash helmet at night might not be a bad idea! Lol!

Lift cables/top support

Just a thought. I made some top supports out of 2" X 3" wood to fit where the lift posts are and rest the top on these when set up. I slack off on the lift cables and, i believe, this takes takes load off of the cable pulleys. Usually 2 of the pulleys are just bolted thru the wood floor. I had to repair one that pulled out.
BTW Welcome Aussie.

I would recommend getting two Safety Bars. We always installed them in opposite corners.

The ones we had, on the outfacing side, had a tack welded little Z'd in piece, so you could use the palm of your hand to help lift or lower if you broke a cable. Yes we broke a few cables on our old 1970's PU.

Thanks - Yes I have some wood posts to support roof once camper is wound up.

I'm really interested if anyone else has used synthetic winch cable instead of steel and if there have been any issues. From all accounts, synthetic cable is better in nearly all respects, but I have searched lots of forums and nobody seems to have done it for the roof in a camper - Maybe I'm a trailblazer.

Anyway, its been in for a couple of days now and so far so good.
