Tire question

Had my first blow out on the highway yesterday. Got it changed fine and rolled the blown out tire down to my local shop (small chain). I was told they had two in stock and picked up the wheel today. In a rush to get out of there and make it home for dinner.

Afterwards I知 bending over to check what they inflated it to and it was only 40psi. Max pressure on the new tire is 32. Tires on the trailer as indicated on the sticker should be 80. OEM tires are ST145R12E. New one best I can tell is just a 145R12. I知 guessing I値l be heading back to the shop tomorrow to hand this back over?

Travel trailer tires will have ST preceding the numbers like on your OEM tires. Some folks will use LT (Light Truck) tires on their trailers. ST tires have a stronger side wall/stiffer wall than LT.

Your new tire they installed, are there any letters preceding 145R12?

Sounds like they installed a P rated tire.

Do not use a P rated tire. Dad did that once on a PU when I was a kid in the 70's, absolutely the worse sway you could imagine.

Thank you for the quick responses. This place is invaluable for us newbies. Does that Kenda Karrier tire I linked above look like what I need? Nobody anywhere near me has something like that in stock. I致e attached a snapshot of the specifications off the trailer.

I知 unfamiliar with that brand of tire or recstuff.com

Thank you for all the advice!

That tire fits your needs. However, some other here with more camping time than me will let you know about that tire brand's reputation. I've seen the brand you've listed used for off road motorcycles but I can't say I've seen it elsewhere. Maybe I just haven't been looking for it elsewhere though.

I had Kenda Karriers on my old RV. For your size they have good ratings. On bigger sizes I would go with Goodyear Endurance but I don't think they come in 12s.

As noted above you MUST HAVE ST TIRES. Regular car tires such as P rated are not designed to hold up to trailer use.

Always a good idea to post your make, model and year RV and tow vehicle for best information.

Congratulations on your first blow out! I take it you had an OEM spare to take the place of the blown tire? Typically the tire shop will sell you what they have on hand. If the new tire is the same size but the pressure is different, it's probably a different load rating (ABCDEF). I've never seen a vehicle tire smaller than 15", so you most likely got a trailer tire. You never want to over-inflate any tire. This will cause uneven and premature wear. Max pressure is defined for a reason.

We might have a better idea of capabilities if you provide your trailer make/model/year so we know what you're working with. Dual axle is more reliable than single, but single is typically lighter.
