What the Devil is this exterior port for???

This is on a 1994 Jayco Cardinal 6 SD. It has the deluxe plumbing (toilet, shower, water heater, grey tank - and grey drain with typical pull up to release on the drivers side.

I have figured out most all of the plumbing, BUT THIS.

The above is how it's supposed to appear.

It looks like this (below) on my unit - missing entirely the port cover. But what is the port for?

I'm only guessing that it's some sort of over flow port?

Could it be an external drain port for the shower?

It looks to be a metal pipe, so I doubt it's for plumbing.

I wonder if with using a bright flashlight looking into it would reveal more information? ~CA

Is it where you would insert a handle to manually crank the lid up/down?

Looks to sturdy to be from the factory. Maybe a previous owner added it for pole storage or such?

I posted your photo and question on another site popupportal.com.

I got a response:

Don't know the brand of my brother's PU is. But that spot that fits the hand crank for lifting the top manually.

Lightbulb Mystery Port "SOLVED "

See This Photo Album for detailed Shower plumbing pictures with full text overlays detailing how these systems work.

This "Mystery Port" is just:
A clever Shower Drain system
elevated VENT / OVERFLOW PORT !!!

Here's the back side of the elevated vent OVERFLOW

So if worse comes to worst and the Grey Tank (of which the Shower is it's only contributor) fills up -
Any additional water attempting drain from the shower can

conveniently exit to the outsidpe of the RV via this clever port -

INSTEAD OF overflowing the shower basin and FLOWING ALL OVER THE INTERIOR FLOOR OF THE RV

Which, believe me, would damage all the interior panels, since after all, they consist of cheap particle "wood bits".
And when they get saturated with water from the floor up, they will puff out AND warp and get very distorted, loosing vertical rigidity and appear like a wax wall that melted a lot.

Here is the visual basic flow diagram:

So my friends, enjoy the free enlightenment!

My best
Fast Freddy

Wow, thank you, I sadly just noticed your reply with the same general answer that I came to on my own.
I greatly appreciate it!
Sincerely
