I think that's a fine matchup. For brake settings I'm on heavy electric at 7.5 or 8. towing an 11k pound fifth wheel. Just where I can feel the trailer brakes grab is where I set them.

If you've towed a couple seasons with no problems I'd leave it. I think I have about six inches clearance between pickup bed and trailer, a little more gap would be ok, but my rig is level good...
