Yamaha EF2400iSHC Generator

Had intentions of purchasing a new Honda EU2000i this past spring...., but spent the extra few hundred and went with the Yamaha EF2400iSHC generator. I didn't think I would need a generator to run my A/C since I do most of camping around Michigan, that's why I felt the Honda would serve me just fine. But with plans to head out west next year I thought having the ability to run my A/C might be a plus.

Well, after spending the last few weeks boondocking in Michigan's Huron National Forest, I'm glad I went with the Yamaha. The temp's throughout Michigan were in the 85 to 95 degree range most of last week, and the inside temp of my TT reached 92 degrees on a number of afternoons. I used the genny to run my A/C on a number of occasions to cool things down inside to a respectable 72 degrees. With my particular TT it took about one hour run time to bring the inside temp down to 72 degrees.

The Yamaha EF2400 had no problem starting my 13.5 A/C with the outside temps in the low 90's, which I thought might have been an issue. So far the Yamaha has performed well.

Good choice...we have the 2000 which won't run an A/C.

I don't think you can go wrong with either the Honda or Yamaha. I have two Honda 2000's that I run in parallel when I need AC.

I lucked out on my 2. I bought the first one off of ebay brand new for $850 shipped, about 6 yrs ago. 3 yrs ago, a racing buddy of mine had 2 of them that he kept for hurricane season in florida. He decided to sell one and keep one. I bought the one off of him for $500. It was like brand new with less than 10hrs run time on it.

I also run mine with the extended run time fuel tank mod.

We have the EF3000iSEB and it's a great generator. Run's the air and most everything else without issue and is really quiet at low rpms. When the air is running though it ramps up and noticeably louder. Only thing it can't do is run the air and microwave at the same time... and come to think of it the 30amp posts at our local campground can't do that either

Glad I came accross this thread. We just bought a 2nd Jayco X17Z (weekend get aways) and we have to camping trips lined up that we don't have electicity. So we'll be bringing our Yamaha 2400. Glad to know it will run our AC.

I have a 2006 Yammy EF2400si genny. It is a very good generator. In 2007 it ran for 5 days straight during a power outage keeping our home refrig and freezer running. Neighbors would come to get fresh brewed coffee!

The only issue I have had is when I run it at altitudes above 7000', I have to re-jet it as it will carbon up from running to rich. I found this out the hard way when camped in Rocky Mt NP. It ran fine for 2 days when charging up the batteries, running the microwave, coffee pot, etc. On the 3rd day it started fine but then started running rough. Upon checking it the spark arrestor was full of carbon. Cleaned it out and put SeaFoam in the tank and limped it through the rest of our trip.

I bought smaller jets for it to use at altitude, and it has performed flawlessly since as proved by our next year's trip into Yellowstone NP. I can replace the jets on the 2400 in about 20 minutes.

Hopefully this altitude issue has been rectified on newer models of the 2400. If not, I suggest buying smaller jets if you are going to do any mountainous camping. I don't know where in the West you will be going.
