Cool X23B Dinette Rebuild

I had to rebuild the dinette. I did not like how much wasted space there was. Most of the space was not very accessible. As you will see in the photos; I basically removed the majority of the dinette framing. There were two main goals. 1st goal was to open up the cargo hold area to allow better utilization of the space. 2nd goal was to make a storage area for linens. Total cost was approximately $32 in supplies. 7 sticks of 1x2’s, a sheet of panelling, a new package of ¾” brads and Kreg screws. The most expensive item was the carpet molding to replace the funky trim piece between the floor and the front wall. You may also notice the wire harness was also moved.

I did this a few weeks ago. We have 5 nights of camping on it and we really like this mod. The plywood seat base before was a wimpy. It sagged and I was very concerned about stepping on it getting in and out of the front bunk. Now the plywood base is much more rigid. Now it is time to begin organizing my stuff.

Very nice job Jagiven!! I first thought the idea of the drawer down there was great, but find that I never use it...too hard to get to it seems. I really like the linen closet. On my 23B I get some water leakage in the corners where the tent end comes down at the bottom. I get water inside the trailer at the outer front edges of your linen closet lid.

I never get any water. I do check my seals really carefully when I closer her up to ensure no fabric is in the seal, and that all potential debris is removed. When the bunk is down I also double check to ensure the skirt is pulled down and arranged to drain any potential water. I believe you are cleaning up the water right in that small trim gap between the bunk hinge and the large horizontal board that is now my linen closet lid. If so I did not change that at all. If you have water coming in you have rot in your future.

Attached is a photo for people to see the space that I am talking about.

Nice work on the mod. It looks quite useful.

We haven't had water seep in that area but we have had crickets in there. My wife is sewing up some small foam pillows to place in that area. We'll be able to pull them out to check for moisture and critters.

Exacty what we were looking to do. GREAT JOB!!!

We have been trying to find a useful solution ourselves as the dinnette in our Jayco featherlite is something we never utilize. Looks as if your interior is the same color scheme as ours. We would be insterested in a more detailed instructions of your remodel. Also, looking at the picture it looks as if you have a large picture window like we do. Any help would be much appreciated.

Capitasun636, I certainly can write something up, but it will take some time, as I am working 12-14 hour days for the next week

Good work Jaiven, I did a similar thing to my dinette and bunks. What prompted mine was a water leak. I had to rip out the large horizontal board in the front. I decided to rearrange how my front storage is setup. In the Jayco 17-C the area directly under the horizontal board in both the front and back bunkends is dead wasted space. If you get water in these areas you wont be able to see it until its to late. Getting access to these areas sure does make for checking for water and clean up much easier. I was surprised what I found in the rear bunkend when I pulled the large horizontal board up. In the back I used 3 borads with the center removable and in the front I used 1 board but put in a hinge for access. Still working on removable bins for these areas so I can get to the bottom when I need to inspect for water.

Jagiven, I'm 90% done with this renovation. Coming out great, made some of my own mods along the way, too. I'll post pics when I'm done. Thanks for this awesome idea.

So you have any of the before. Trying to see how much different it is than my 2005 23B. Thanks for anything you can provide. I am considering something similar and looking for ideas.
