One Mouse, One Man....

When my TT is in outside storage I always keep two conventional spring style mouse traps loaded, one located in the open area of the TT and the other inside a floor cabinet under my HWH. I normally check in on my TT once a week.

Well, earlier this week the trap in the cabinet was less the the dab of peanut butter, but wasn't sprung. So I added some fresh peanut butter to the trap, and placed the other trap inside the cabinet as well. The next day the peanut butter was gone and now "both" traps weren't even sprung!

Ok, I have one smart mouse here. So I pulled the traps out of the cabinet and left them in the open area of the TT, then placed two "sticky traps" with a dab of peanut butter in the center of each inside the cabinet on the floor.

Checked in on the "sticky" traps the next day and found the following.....: Found one sticky trap had the peanut butter eaten, but not without a struggle because there was a small patch of fur left behind............. Now, where the heck did the second "sticky" trap go? Retrieving my flashlight it took me a couple of minutes searching through the inter-connecting floor cabinets before I found the second "sticky" trap wedged between two wood panels, the peanut butter eaten, but this sticky had a larger patch of fur left behind suggesting a tough battle took place. This tough mouse made his escape again

Yesterday I placed one new fresh sticky trap surrounded by "six" brand new spring loaded mouse traps inside the cabinet!

Outcome to follow.................

Bob

Lee,

I haven't been able to find a source of entry yet. I very seldom have a mice visiting my TT, but I did catch one in early spring of this year after seeing signs of mouse activity, and that was my first visitor in years. Guess I can blame this recent activity on Global Warming

I wonder if it is "Mighty Mouse"?

I had one mouse in my trailer, and I was camping at the time. My guess is that it came in on the power cord. Now I keep brass wool around the cord and I haven't had a second encounter.

I do something similar when I'm camping as well.

Last year the campsite my brother in-law was camping on was near an ant farm and they were using his shore cord as a highway into his TT.... what a mess!

UNBELIEVABLE!!
I checked my maze of traps this afternoon and two of the traps the bait was gone, but once again not sprung. The critter didn't even go near the baited sticky pad this time.

So, I baited the traps again.

Speedy Gonzales.....question, my fresh water fill hose and suction hose goes thru the flooring. Instead of hole saw cuts a rectangle was cut leaving a great deal of space. Any nifty ideas on sealing it up shy of gooping stuff all over. Space would be about 2x4 inches. Little critters is what I am worried about and there sure is plenty of room for them.

I would pack it with brass or steel wool and then seal it with ??? just to make it water/air tight. Rodents don't chew threw the steel or brass wool. That is why I would pack that in first.

Mission complete, spring trap got him. This particular mouse again stayed away from the "sticky" trap, so it implies that even a mouse knows to avoid prior experienced hazards!

Ok, have to find something else to do until this rain front clears out of the mid-west......

We sprinkled white flower on the floor to see where the little foot prints went to. That worked out great.... found one access point at least. The bad thing was we always had snake tracks following the mice tracks... That wasn't so nice.... Never did find a snake...

Sometimes it's best you don't know what's going on haha...

I was always told by the old timers that once a mouse has been killed in the spring traps the others will know what happened and avoid it. Was told to always use a new mouse trap after a mouse kill... That's from my dear grandma many years past - bless her heart... She is probably telling grampa now they are talking about us again... "Lets blow out another lamp bulb to let them know we hear them"

I have used mouse traps over and over and they still catch mice.

Fill the gaps with low expansion foam and you shouldn't have any more problems. As for Houdini mouse, try using cheese instead of peanut butter, but tie the cheese onto the trap, so he has to exert pressure to get it off. Worked for me after having a similar problem. The other avenue is to leave the hole open, place some warfarin mixed with peanut butter in the trailer and hope that after he eats the special treat that he heads out to find some water and dies outside the trailer. Terrible smell if he dies inside and you can't find the body to dispose of it. Good luck with the hunt.
