Lets talk Sewage - when do you hook up?
I'll be taking my very first camping trip with our new trailer next Friday. They have full hookups at the park we are visiting and we'll be there for two nights with two adults and two kids. My question is this? When should we hook up to the sewer? When we arrive so that the gray water can drain, or collect everything until the end so we have plenty of flush water for the gray and black tanks?

For me, none of the choices in the survey fit. I connect depending on "the situation".
Sometimes, I connect immediately. However, if it's inclement, I arrive late at night, or just plain don't feel like doing it and want to chill out with a beer, then I connect later. The gray water tank pretty much dictates when I connect. If my wife and I shower in the TT, I can go about two days before I have to connect. If we shower using the campground's facilities, then I can go longer.
Once I connect the sewer hose, it stays connected until I leave. With fresh water, I always connect immediately as I don't carry water in my fresh water tank when I travel. If there is no water hookup at the camp site, I fill the fresh water tank at the campground before going to the site.
One thing I will recommend is not to leave the dump valve open on the gray and/or black tanks and just let them "drain". Having water in the holding tank helps keep the solids in suspension so they flush out when you empty the tank.

I hook up the sewer hose as part of my setting up procedure, but I do not open the dump vavles until my either of my tanks are full.Since I camp at full hook up sites my grey tank fills before my black tank.
What I do is once my grey tank is full I empty the black tank, regardless of how full it is, and then I empty my grey tank. I then run water in my black tank for 20 seconds.

Most of the places we camp have NO hookups. In that case I use the blue tote tank or dump at the dump station if my tanks will go that long.

Just remember to never ever leave your black tank open... always closed till its near full then dump... and if you want to dump when its not full fill it first with water then dump... this prevents the hated and costly "pyramid of poop"

Gotta go with FPM, that's pretty much my position. That's why I voted second choice. It seemed to be the only one with flexibility. Also, after a while you may need to get the feel of your tank gauges. My black tank monitor actually showed empty the other day for the first time since early in the season. Good timing, too. I was selling it that day.
