1/4" air line

Had one that developed a leak today. Started the rig this morning and after switching off, heard some air hissing from near the air dryer. A quick look and there a small hole. I couldn't feel or see any reason to have caused a hole there.

It should be an easy fix so I got a coupler and cut out the bad part.

I'll be replace the entire line later on. Those PTC fittings are kind of cool.

I had one fixed under warranty, they told me it is common that when they are doing welding while building the house hot pieces of weld melt the line.

I agree, looks like welding splatter got on it. I carry couplers in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2" just in case.

Haha, you should see all the crap I carry, I have made repairs mostly on others RVs with the, so far.

Could you show a picture of what you mean when you say "coupler" on the air lines? Especially in regards to repairing an air line. I tend to think of air lines made of "black pipe", and the picture shown looks like tubing of some kind. And I do want to carry the right spares!

The chassis is plumbed with DOT approved air lines which range from 1/4” to 1/2” and use a plastic or brass push to connect fitting. In this pic you can see the black plastic push to connect coupler and a brass push to connect Tee.

Our S2RV rigs have several colors for the air lines. Originally, I had thought it had to do with size of the lines but it didn't.
I ordered several sizes of straight unions for spare parts just in case.

I ordered excessively, figuring i could help others in my travels. 40 pieces of 1/4, 20 of the 3/8, and 20 of the 1/2 was still under $40.

I know that these may only be used in an emergency but any fittings must be DOT approved.

Just search "DOT approved air brake fittings" Personally I get either Eaton or Parker fittings and usually just pick them up at a Napa store.

Can the air lines be removed from the couplings once inserted? Just added airbags to my TV and plan on keeping a few spares.

Yes, if you push the small colored collar towards the fitting, you can pull the line back out.
