13.5k vs 15k A/C

13.5k A/C has a tough time keeping up in extreme heat. Is 15k noticeably better or would I be wasting my money? I'd consider keeping the 13.5k & adding another one but my trailer & my park power are only 30a.

We’ve only had a 15k AC, so I can’t compare it with a 13.5, but I can say it’s worked great for us in some pretty toasty places. It kept our 26-foot trailer cool in 100-plus temps camping in Arizona, Southern California and eastern Idaho in early summer. It cooled it down quickly and enough we didn’t really need it at night. It’s a Dometic Brisk II, which I think is discontinued.

In addition to the link above....which is a Sticky in Chat...I also installed the RV Airflow device which eliminated my need for a second AC. Even though my trailer is 50 amps, I also installed the SoftStart device to help when running on my 3500 watt generator. Out of my 5 ceiling ducts all but one were leaking cold air into the roof area and not into the interior of the trailer. Fixing the leaks did improve the cooling somewhat.

The photo was taken at Lake Powell last month when the outside temps were in the 90's and above.

Thanks, I guess I'm sealing my vents. I sure wish they would regulate build quality in trailers.

Since you only have 30 amp service your options are limited. My 30 amp rig has 2 - 11k units and that is the max for 30 amp with 2 units. Maybe installing soft starts would allow slightly larger units but I am fine with what I have.

You will need to view the required current for whatever you are looking at.

I just replaced my 13.5k with a 15k two weeks ago on my 2008 Jayco 5th wheel. It was an easy decision as my 13.5 died. I notice some improvement but not enough to replace a working unit. Right now it's 116 degrees outside and my inside temperature is 89 degrees.
