16XRB black tank flush with no threaded hose

As some may have noticed on the 2016 16XRB, in order to use the black tank flush inlet you need a hose with a threaded nozel. Unfortunately here in Canada many parks don't have hoses like this for filling and rinsing. Just wondering if others have this problem and if there was something to get in order to ensure a cleaned tank after every trip. I considered removing the mesh screen that is essentially in the way of being able to use other types of hoses to flush with. Bad idea?

Probably a 'Water Bandit' type device will work for you - check online or W*mart. I have one to use for the situation you describe, but haven't needed to test it yet.

I don't know about removing the screen! We are just finishing up a summer with our new Jayco X17Z and ran into the same problem as you described. We have done a couple of things to combat this problem. First, we carry another hose that is clearly marked for black water flushing and a small adjustable wrench. If we are at a campground that has no threaded end on the hose we can sometimes remove their hose and screw on ours. The only problem here is if you have others lined up behind you at the dump station. Second, if we are only switching campgrounds we will dump the black then the gray and go to the next site and chances are we will be able to flush there. Lastly and the best is to start booking full service site and you can flush that tank all day if you want.

I hope you realize that they don't have threaded ends on the hoses usually due to a limited water supply and by doing that you are causing a shortage of water for the next camper..

I do understand that 100% and honestly hope there is enough water for the other campers that follow. However, at $26000.00 Canadian for our first new camper, I will be using the water if it is there to ensure I am taking as great of care as I can. I would like to ensure it lasts at least 10 years. I know that $26000.00 is mere pocket cha ange for some people on here who have motor homes over $200000.00. We worked hard for ours and want to take care if it. I mean no disrespect to anyone and this post is not intended to argumentative in anyway. Thank you to all who have made this forum a wonderful place.

X2 and if you're talking about the old style "L" shaped tank flushers at the dump station, the water bandit with a hose clamp on the non threaded end will work fine and have used it many times although never if someone is behind me.

It's actually done for health reasons so people don't try and fill their fresh water tank at the dump station and get cross contamination.

My intent is to just quickly rinse the tank out. I don't plan on filling the tank up completely to do a major flush each time I camp. Would be nice to just give it a rinse at the end of each trip to minimize odours.

After seeing how much more comes out when I flush my tank I don't blame you a bit! Anything is better than nothing.

A quick rinse will do little to "clean" your tank. Today when I dumped I ran the black rinse for 5 or 6 minutes...water looked clear for most of that time...I then closed the black tank and let the rinse continue...probably put in 20 to 25 gallons before opening the tank again. I was still getting paper and other waste out after dumping. It's amazing how much "stuff" gets stuck in there.

At the end of the season we will take 5 or 6 days to get home and each night will dump and rinse as above...filling the tank 5 to 10 gallons while driving and I expect as in the past, I will still get gunk out the last day.. My sensors do read empty after I dump but it's very difficult to get 100% of the waste rinsed out. It takes time water and effort to do a good job.

A quick rinse will do little to "clean" your tank.

That's what all the tank cleaning guys say too. You have to fill at least 2/3's a couple times to get it cleaned out.

I successfully used the water bandit to flush my tank today with an unthreaded hose. Just needed to squeeze it and maintain pressure to allow the water to enter the tank. This is a good fix that I think will work with most hoses for those experiencing the same problem. Thanks so much for the help.

I carry a water bandit and every time I have ever used it, I had to physically push the hose in and hold it there while using the black tank flush. If not, it will blow off and spray water everywhere.
