1st Trip, Rain, No Wipers

First trip out and my driver side wiper isn't working...

When purchasing our 26X I noticed that the wiper was bent and hitting the rubber seal and windshield. Before we were set to do the walkthrough and pick up the RV the dealer changed out the wiper blade.

It looked good but I didn't try the wipers until we hit rain on the 40 in New Mexico last week. The passenger's wiper moved but not the drivers. We pulled over and the wiper blade but was bearly on hand tight. Upon further inspection, I found the post or motor had splines on it but the wiper blade did not. We were not sure if this is how these large wiper arms are done. Are the post splines supposed to dig into the metal on the wiper arm. Or did the wrong replacement part get put on?

The wiper arm is suppose to have splines on it, to grip the ones on the shaft. If it was loose, the shaft splines wore down the ones on the arm. The shaft metal is harder than the soft arm metal. You need a new wiper arm, seat it snugly on the wiper shaft spline. It sounds like the dealer needs to furnish you a new one!

Since the replacement wiper the dealer installed had no splines it looks like they didn't use the correct part number or a replacement that wasn't compatible. We have an appointment and a list of manufacturing problems so we will add this to our list.

Correct Part Number?

A quick follow up thought is there a way to know what the correct wiper partnumber Jayco puts on the 26 X is. My guess is there is no parts breakdown for RV's but thought id ask.

I am with you on the Rain X. Just picked up some last weekend after the trip.

I saw a technique on you tube from the RV Geeks using 0000 steel wool to get all the bug parts off, then invisable glass and reple. I grabed the invisable glass cleaner only so ill do the extra step of using rain x after the cleaning until I run out of product and try the all in one product.

At one point it was 4-5 miles of driving until an exit came up and the whole time im thinking I bet this wouldnt be as bad if I had coated it with rain X.

X2 on this method and I’ve been doing this for years. I apply the 0000 in straight lines but the Rain X in circles and usually 3 times for a good coating that lasts about 4-6 weeks depending on the Bellingham rain.

From what I've read on IRV2, it a common problem. They say the arm socket is NOT grooved, and to tighten to 60 ft/lbs torque. The shaft then makes it's own grooves in the arm. That's a LOT of torque.

The Rain-X washer fluid works well for me.
