2014 Jayco Redhawk

Are there any 2014 Redhawk owners out there. I have a couple of questions.
Where is the inverter located?
How do you operate the rear camera other than when backing up. The owners manual says to flip a switch. It doesn't say where the switch is. I am planning on towing in the future and would like to be able to see car when towing.

The inverter is located under the bed in my 2014 Redhawk 29XK. You have to lift the mattress and remove some screws to remove a piece of plywood that supports the foot of the bed. You'll find the inverter amongst the wiring.

The backup camera can only be used while backing up. Even though the manual says to flip a switch, that applies to an older model that they did not install on the 2014. I purchased an add-on camera from Tadi Brothers that is wireless and has a separate monitor that is used when I'm towing anything. I attached it to the inside of the rear window and got the12vdc power from a light over the bed. Made it all removable so it's not in the way unless I'm actually on the road and towing.

Thanks Tom. Under the bed is the only place I haven't looked because it involved removing screws. I thought that might be the case with the backup camera.

We also own a 2014 Redhawk. Ours is a 26XS. I could not have answered your questions, but I thought that I'd chime in and let you know that I am here too. We have owned our Redhawk about a month, so it is all new to us still.

We've had our 2015 Redhawk about a week, and are also very dissappointed that the camera can't be used to monitor the dingy. We're also trying to figure out how to turn on the antenna power without climbing up on the bunk (there is no ladder) and crawling back behind the TV to push the button. We've tried pushing it with a piece of dowel rod, but it's placed just right to make that impossible. What a strange place to put the switch...

Other than that, it seems like a great unit.

Yes, I too was surprised to find out the button to turn on the antenna was located behind the TV. I finally purchased a bunk ladder from Camping World online to climb up to my bunk.

invertor questions

We, too, recently got our 2014 Redhawk. The invertor was added to our unit, but we can't figure out how to get it to work. It appears to come on and be working, but no outlets or electrical appliances will work. The salesman told us we'd be able to watch tv and pop some corn while on the road, but we can't figure out what we are doing wrong. Easier to ask for help here first than to try and contact dealers. Thanks for any help!

Inverter

For some strange reason, the inverter only powers the outlet behind the TV. And, stranger yet, that outlet powers down as soon as you start the engine. That makes it worthless!

Many have modified the outlet to work when the engine is running, and there are several posts on the forums explaining how to do that.

If I knew how, I'd change.the inverter to another outlet, so I could plug the laptop into it. I may just run an extension cord from the the TV outlet to plug the laptop into...

You're exactly right. I just went out and tried it and the TV came on fine without the motor running. This is really irritating, because I'd seen this somewhere before so I specifically asked the salesman if we could watch TV while driving and he said yes. He also said we could pop some popcorn too, but that's not happening. I'm having trouble figuring out just when I would be using this inverter. Thanks for your quick response and help!

OK, another question. Our Redhawk drives OK, but not great. From things I've read, I know it can be better. Added Hellwig rear sway bar and that has helped when towing. From things I've read, the next steps might be front sway bar, steering stabilizer, shocks, alignment....Looking for recommendations specific to this unit - what you've done and used that has made the most difference. It's called your Federal Government at Work. It powers off so the driver is not distracted by the TV. Easy fix.

Also the reason it only powers one outlet is the battery will not support a bigger load since it would go dead too fast.

PS: Never listen to the salesman, tell them to show you how it works.

I really do think he was "under informed". We didn't even ask about the inverter. He was so excited that we had it and told us all we could do with it. Guess I should educate him a bit.
