2015 Jay Flight 26BHS Bunk Ladder

It is a little tough for my 9 year old to get in and out of the top bunk. Has anyone built a bunk ladder or do you use anything else to help get in/out of the top bunk in this model? Things are a little tight with the bathroom door, but I am thinking about building a wooden ladder. If you have built something, could you post a picture of it. Thanks.

I built a ladder for our 267. It is wooden, and removable, so I can throw it on top of the bunk when not needed. I can try to get pics for you if you are interested.

I bought a ladder from my dealer the day I picked up my 26BHS and it actually worked out very well. I am out of town until Friday, so I will try and post a picture or two along with the make of it when I get home. It's really light and narrow...can be stowed in the lower bunk, but I just leave it installed.

I built mine out of PVC pipe, I inserted 2 old aluminum broom handles down the side shafts for added strength, then screwed 2 hooks at the top to secure to side of bunk. My 11y/o son uses it to gain access to his top bunk. I have tested it out myself, it works well and it's lightweight.

It cost me $50 in materials.

CDavid, I would like to know which ladder you got from the dealer. A picture would be nice if you get time. It would take a lot less time to buy than build.

Man i wish you would have posted this a month ago, had same problem with my boys so i made small mahogony steps and screwed then directly to the 3'' wall between bathroom door and bunks, then i mounted a small grab handle up just high to reach. Think of a rock climbing wall on the back yard swingsets. One foot on first step then other on bunk then foot on next step and then they pull themselves up onto top bunk. Wish i could take pics but she's put away for winter. Hard to explain but works very well. I have a 12,10 and 8yr old works for all and me too. Btw the mahogany was readily available to me and matched very well

I would really like to see a picture of this. Sounds like a great idea, that doesn't really take up much space. Maybe in the spring?

Takes up no room at all, doesn't interfere with door either. Will try to remember to get pics when i go check on next month and post them.

I trimmed the length to fit on the upper and lower legs, and notice that the small clips that come with the ladder hold it to the bunk pretty snug.

Has the ladder pulled or damaged the strip it is hanging onto?

Different model trailer, but similar issue. I was going to build one, but life happened, then we needed one in a hurry. Bought one of these, it works great, my 6 (was 5 at last climb) year old can climb it with no issues. It also fits under the couch to store which is a nice bonus.

There are 2 different height options, can't remember exactly which one i got.

Our Solution

Here is our solution. I was a little hesitant to try this out but it worked great! It was a little hard to finish with our two little girls going up and down the ladder over and over and over......

The one downside is if you have tall children you lose a little bed realestate but that is not a problem for us. My wife pointed out that I should have installed it against the bathroom wall so it is on the short side of the bed. She is probably right but don't tell her that!
