2020 SLX Fridge fire

You are entitled to your personal feelings on this, considering what you went through. But do update us on your outcome as it plays out. I think that is of benefit to all of us, who might, God forbid, have a similar experience. Good luck!

Hey Mike, I don't think there's any need to apologize. I think it's totally reasonable to feel the way you do about the manufacturer's response. It's cold. It's disappointing.

Thank you for sharing this with us. Please keep us posted. I'm really hoping you get the result you're looking for. It's what I would want, too.

Let's see... dude and his family could've died... Jayco sends a bland corporate response... they sure could've at the least apologized and besides that there should have been a stop sale order on that camper from the get go. No, I wouldn't take that response from Jayco well either.

Hind sight is 20/20, Mike, but you should've saved the fire extinguisher and let nature take its course. Then taken the insurance money and bought something NOT from Jayco.

Good luck Mike, hope it all works out ok for you.

OH MY! That is one of the worst WTFs I've ever heard (other than someone rolling theirs due to winds or too fast around tight corners that is.)
You're so very lucky and it is so very good to hear that you and your family are OK physically. The mental anguish may take longer.
Thanks for letting everyone know. I'll be looking at my fridge later this week and will be putting some kind of fire detection alarm in the unit.
All the best with the service and Jayco people.

WOW WOW WOW.....after reading this I just removed my smoke detector on my 265RLS
and the sheet of plastic was still in place. UNREAL...this is not good. To send a camper out
without a active working smoke detector. Two years and 4 months later. Well folks my bad. I should of checked the smoke detector everytime we left the driveway.+

We bought the same model number in March, and were finally able to use it just after Memorial Day. The week prior to our trip, we received a recall notice from Jayco_Our dealer worked 00us in to their schedule the day before we were leaving, and while they did not find a leak on the refrigerator, they did find one on the water heater.
Looking at these pictures, I am glad I didn't blow the recall off, and I will be checking the battery on our smoke detector.

Goodness... a close one!

I think I'd rather have a replacement trailer than go through the insurance with a deductible and depreciation.

The good thing is you haven't yet spent a lot of time and money 'tweaking' it yet.

Good luck, and let us know the outcome!

Your insurance company will investigate the claim, pay you for repairs or total loss, then seek reimbursement from Jayco and/or the refrigerator manufacturer for the amount they paid you. The RV part of the claim will be covered under your auto/RV policy and any contents lost or damaged will be covered under your homeowners policy. Working through the details is tedious but necessary.

Very sorry for your loss of a new RV, shocking and disappointing to say the least. Glad you’re all OK!

no reason to apologize

Appologies for dragging my personal dealings with the manufacturer into this. My original intent for this thread was to make owners aware of the safety issue. I will refrain from posting any more in regards to my dealings with manufacturer/dealer. Wishing all safe and fun adventures. Mike

There's no reason in the world for you to apologize. When you live through something like that, when your family is endangered, you better believe that a visceral reaction will ensue ! IT IS PERSONAL, at that point. I would have hoped for a more empathetic reaction from the company, but it IS just business for them. I would REALLY expect more empathy from posters in this forum !

Glad that no one was hurt this time, hope that the dealer will work for you. Jayco corporate will do only what's required by law. The dealer can go to bat for you, to get the replacement, instead of repairs.

fridge fire going down the road

This is what that looks like going down the road. Burned to the ground in 40 minutes.
