Does anybody know if the two very small side tables on the wall, just above the mattress, are removable to replace with a thicker mattress?

I removed ours pretty early on. From what I remember it is just 2 screws (#2 square drive)

Yes, they are. I think there are three screws hidden underneath. 2 on the side wall and one on the headboard wall. Took ours out the second day of ownership when we too replaced the thing Jayco called a mattress with a real one.
