When ever I put shore power to the Rv it sometimes takes up to 2 minutes to get power inside which I was told is normal. As soon as it comes on I turn on the AC and it runs for about 35-40 seconds then power shuts off. About 35-40 seconds later the power comes back on. Turn on the other AC and I get the same results. If I wait about 5 minutes after power shows up in the Rv and turn on AC the power stays on. Not sure if that’s correct. Any ideas on this.
 
I have a 23 26m and I can hear it kick over within seconds after plugging it in. I don't have an answer for you but it doesn't sound right to me.
 
I can't speak for what equipment they may put in the newer units, but for my 2017 Greyhawk power is basically on instantly. When I fire up the generator there is about an 8 second delay, which is normal to let it stabilize. Once on, either one will power everything without dropping out.

I would open up your transfer switch, WITH NO POWER APPLIED, and check for any burnt connections plus make sure every connector is tight. If you have some sort of surge protector, see if you can bypass it.

It is definitely not normal for power to drop out under load once it is on. You do have a problem somewhere.
 
I forgot to ask - what are you plugged into? Is it a 30 amp outlet or something less?

I would also add that it may be a good idea to measure what the actual voltage level is. Low voltage can cause weird symptoms. Just put a voltmeter in any socket and see what it reads. Then fire up the air and see what happens.
 
The dealer said the power cord had a short in it so they replaced it but it still does the same thing
 
If the switch over is faster on generator, I'd be poking around too. Like others, I get instant power when I plug in. On generator, it's about 20 seconds give or take.

The one thing that does slow down the switch on when I plug into shore power is when I use the Surge Protection device. That analyzes the pedestal current and takes about 15-20 seconds to pass the voltage thru.

Two minutes to me doesn't seem right.
Like Grumpy said - if you have a PMS, see if that's what's causing the delay.
 
Generator works fine

That is major information. Since the generator works normally you can basically eliminate everything inside the rig (so to speak).

You have 2 power feeds to the rig - shore power and generator power. They come together in the transfer switch which selects the power source to use. So, the output from the transfer switch is good since it passes the generator on through. The question is why isn't the shore power making it through cleanly.

The dealer said your power cord had a "short". That is a stupid term used for things that go wrong in electrical systems. True "shorts" will trip breakers, burn wires, and can get a lot worse. What you are dealing with is an intermittent "open" and not any sort of short.

Since the power cord was replaced that should have eliminated any problem that may have existed in the power cord plug which have been known to fail due to poor connections. If your power cord connects directly to the transfer switch, that should eliminate loose connections inside there also. If it doesn't connect directly then the transfer switch could still have a loose connection where the shore power comes in.

Going on the assumption the cord does connect to directly to the transfer switch, the only thing that hasn't been addressed is the actual shore power. The outlet could have loose connections, the circuit breaker protecting it could be bad. I can attest personally to a bad breaker causing electrical problems. As a field tech I once installed a piece of equipment that pulled about 8 amps on a standard 120 volt line. It would come up to power in steps and when it came completely on, the power line would drop out temporarily causing our equipment to "reboot" and start up the power up sequence again. I observed the breaker arcing when hit with 8 amps of current draw. Enough of my reminiscing.

Is there a way of plugging into a different outlet? If so, that would be something to try. You could even use an adapter to plug into a 20 amp (or even a 15 amp) line and see if there is any power delays. You probably could fire up 1 air conditioner on a 15 amp line but nothing else. I assume you have 2 air conditioners that both run under 30 amps. That is what I have. One unit should be OK on 15 amps for a bit.

I think you are getting closer to the source of your problem. Please keep us in the loop. We are all ears and have a lot of opinions. :eek:
 
I get shore power immediately to my rig IF I plug directly to the shore outlet. But I usually plug in my Progressive Industries EMS first. That has a built in 136 second delay to avoid short cycling the air conditioner. Are you plugging directly to the outlet?

Glad you shared this comment, as I typically have to wait a short while until the power kicks on when plugged into my progressive unit. I never plug in without it, and I never read about that lag.
 
Do you plug the EMS to the pedestal, wait 136 seconds, then plug the rig to the EMS?

I turn off the pedestal breaker then plug in the EMS. Turn the breaker on and let it analyze the power. When it says the power is good i turn the breaker off and plug in the shore power cord. Turn the breaker back on and after 2:16 min the power comes on in the rig.

That is the best way to do it!
 
Brought Rv back to dealer and they said the transfer switch keeps dropping the power. Supposed to pick it up tomorrow. Hopefully they got it right this time.
 
Went to pickup camper and the transfer switch was not the problem. They don’t have a clue as to what it could be. They gonna work on it some more next week. Hoping for the best.

Do you have a surge protector ? Are you using shore power from your home? I use a surge protector . That delays the electrical from the house..
