2nd problem, same trip - Instant on hot water not consistent

I’m new to this on-demand hot water system. The water does get really hot, but as I’m taking a shower it gets cold, then it will warm up a little and go cold again. Is this normal?

It took me a bit to figure out this issue too. What you need to do is set the wanted water temp with the water heater dial only. Then use the hot water faucet (no cold water) only for your shower. This will prevent the fluctuation you are experiencing. It might seem like a pain because the temp dial is not readily available while showering, but you quickly figure out where you want the setting.

DW and I spent the first year setting shower temp to our preference, mine was 98 and hers 104, plus 120 for washing dishes.

I got in the shower one day and forgot it was set to 120, ouch! So I started mixing cold with hot and it worked perfect, just like at home. So now we leave it at 120 and. mix a bit of cold with hot to get a temp we like.

You do need good water pressure (above 40 psi) and flow from the campground that is consistent. I use 5/8" water hose. It takes several minutes for the water heater to warm up the plastic line to the shower for consistent temperature. Also, don't take a Navy shower, starting and stopping the water heater leads to spurts of cold water, leave it running. Tankless heaters and Navy showers are a good combination.

All of the above are good suggestions, however, I'll add that using an adjustable water pressure regulator, (vs. the pre-set type), will yield great results with the tankless water heaters. I adjust mine to about 50psi and the water heater delivers consistent hot water and you can add cold water in the shower of sink and get the temp right where you want it. I found that with the lower pressure of a pre-set regulator that it didn't allow enough consistent pressure and the water heater would sense that and shut off intermittently. Try one of the adjustable pressure regulators with a gauge on it and adjustment screw and you should be good to go.

It would help us if we knew which water heater you have.. Is it a Truma or Girard? Girards seem to give more trouble.

We have the Girard tankless heater and with the adjustable pressure regulator has been the hot water supply has been great.
