5th Wheel tire question

Just got back from a short 5 day trip and noticed what looks like a rather large staple or nail in one of our tires. I checked tire pressure manually as I do not have a monitoring system as yet. Not knowing when i got the puncture I went back an hour later and pressure has stayed steady. My question is if this tire has to be repaired is it OK to tow with a plug in the tire? Or should I replace it? Tires has about 10k miles on them. Thanks in advance.

Have it patched plugged at a tire shop. If you're a sam's club member, they will patch plug it for free. Never use plug(s), always patch plug.

I picked up a nail. Discount Tire did the repair for free. They put a patch on the inside of the tire, and I think it was also plugged (old age syndrome, don't recall) No matter what you want an internal patch.

As for keeping or replacing the tire. It really depends on the tire's age and overall condition. Trailer tires die of age long before wear.

If it is Discount, and if not it should be , ask the techs there. They know tires. I have had several repaired over the years, and if it were not safe to tow on I certainly would not be using that same method on my vehicle that my wife or I are driving. If they repair it it is safe. If they say they won't, usually a sidewall, then it is not.



10K on trailer tires. How may days sitting, in the Arizona sun, baking? Just a question that I ask myself about time to change tires. In Arizona 3-4 years depending upon the quality of the tire I originally put on. Dry rot in Arizona is a tire killer.

Thanks for all of your help. Took tire off and had Discount Tire check it. They pulled out what looked like a staple but much fatter. I guess it didn't go all the way thru a there was no leaks.
Tires just turned 3YO this past October (according to mfg. date on sidewall.)
Trailer is 75% under cover. The remaining portion does have roof cover on it. Tires are also covered at all times. They will be replaced before we head out in May '21 for extended trip. Thanks again!!
