Add a room

The wife is now thinking we need an add a room, after thinking the Jayco was to big.... So does anyone have an add a room, what kind, how well does it hold up to winds, etc. Worst worry is that we will be away from the RV and a storm hits and rips it and the awning off. I see some nice ones on the internet that don't require putting on any snaps or swivels on.

On my previous 2 campers we had an add-a-room with the optional hard door. We absolutely loved it, but would only set it up when camping more than 3 days. When we got our 5th wheel, it had an electric awning and the screen room would no longer work so we sold it and no longer have one.

I don't know if you have a manual or electric awning, but if it's electric I wouldn't do it (and didn't). With a manual awning, we enjoyed ours quite a bit. If you have a manual awning and can find the hard door (very hard to find now) that's the way to go!

Never had a add a room on any rv's we have owned, but have seen a few at the campsites, based on some of the threads i have read on this forum the responses seem pretty negative, from a lot of work to set up, to don't really seal up enough to keep the bugs out, people generally don't use them enough to validate the cost and trouble to set up. just my two

Why not with an electric awning?

In my opinion, the electric awning doesn't have enough support to support the weight of the add-a-room. The electric awning has an "auto dump" feature which would be disabled with the add-a-room, and from what I read the electric awning can not withstand the wind as a manual awning. This is fine, because you can simply roll it up BUT with a screen room attached, you can't do that.

I have a TT with the electric awning.. YES you can add the add a room.. HOWEVER.. if you do this I recommend getting a pair of Jack poles, the ratcheting kind the truckers use. Strap them to the roller tube at either end and then stake them to the ground. This will make the room stable in the wind.
