Adding a motorcycle rack to my Precept

Hi 435 Thanks for the thoughts for sure. When you say rails are you meaning the frame rails? As far as loading I agree totally, but in this case I will be using a cool lift that I used to use for my truck The Neo-Dyne AU200 system Works with a cordless drill and you don't have to push bike up a ramp at all.

Ken, by rail, I'm referring to the steel channel where your motorcycle wheels are sitting. Any movement of the carrier will be magnified by the extra distance/height from the RV's rear axle.

The carrier used by Rustynuts seems to address my concerns about extra movements with some bracing.

Hi All
I have started making the rack! I have had some pieces laser cut and started fitting. I put the six 1" holes in frame, cut the HSS and have now disassembled it to start the welding in the shop.
I was lucky enough to meet an engineer from Jayco at the Tampa RV show, and confirmed my idea that this will actually place less weight on rear than some of the longer Precepts inherrently do. He did suggest I weight the front and rear axles when done to confirm limits etc.
Anyways I will see if I can figure how to post some pics as I go and am happy to answer any questions as I go
Ken

Have you checked with your insurance company? My main worry would be should you get in an accident, the insurance company may refuse to cover anything because you modified the motorhome in such a significant way that it adversely affected your ability to control the vehicle, blah blah blah.

Just the same way that if they find out you overload the cargo weight, gross vehicle weight, etc. during an accident, they can refuse coverage.

In any case, a very interesting project and best of luck to you in your travels!
