Is it just me, or do you also find that "Adobe Reader Updates" are more frequent than any other program on your PC?

I use full blown Adobe Acrobat instead of the reader so I can't really say about the reader. I know Adobe Acrobat and other Adobe software (like Flash) do need updating frequently but so do several other programs. The unquestionable king of updates, however, is Microsnot. I've been getting critical updates twice a month lately.

I have a free program that monitors my programs for needed updates called Secunia PSI. It runs a weekly scan to make sure any programs needing security updates have been updated. If not, then it notifies me which ones do and even assists with tricky ones.

I've been using Linux (Ubuntu 11.10 and its predecessors) for the past 3 years now and I haven't missed dealing with that nonsense at all. Unfortunately, I maintain my Mom's PC remotely -- she lives in Massachusetts and I live in Texas -- and it seems like every 10 days or so she asks me to install some Adobe Reader update! Drives me nuts!

Agreed that Adobe Reader updates are often enough to be obnoxious. But, since PDF files are very common they are the target of some malware. Keeping Adobe Reader updated is a good idea.

If you're tired of Adobe, Foxit reader is one you could try. It has worked well for me.
