My wife and I just purchased a used Jayco fifth wheel ,36 foot, and are getting it ready to live in full time. Without starting any battles, what kind of Sat. tv system do most use? I would say we just want the basics ,not a lot of movies and sports. Which ones are more compact, and which seem to be easier to set up? Anything to definately stay away from? Thanks for the help ,Joe

Hey Joe! Welcome to the forum - glad you found us!

Really the choice on Sat systems is up to you -- the two biggies are DirecTV and Dish Network. I have had both, and they are pretty comparable - but both have their pros and cons in an RV.

First thing I would look at is the outside antennas -- there is everything from a simple stand mounted antenna to an automatic finding antenna to an in motion antenna -- they range from $100 to $700 to $1500 or so....

Also - with many of the dishes out there - you will only get standard def for Direct, but can get HD with Dish - but the Dish HDs are sometimes harder to aim - so again it is a matter of preference.

If it were me, I would go look at the different programming packages and see which one you like the best, decide if HD is important --- and then that should help you decide which way to start looking.

Hope that helps get you started. Post away and ask lots of questions...

Howdy Joe. Do you currently have sat tv at your stick and bricks? I used to have DirecTV at the stick and bricks and was able to get another dish, built a pvc stand for it, and just took one of my boxes from the house and put in the fiver (more on this in the Mods section of this Forum). This worked just fine for me. If you have never had sat tv, then Terry's post would be a good place to start.

Welcome to the Jayco Owners Forum JoeCool! We do pretty much as rvrev2 does. But then again, we aren't fulltime. Congrats on the "new" 5'er! :)
