Another Newbie

My wife and I just bought a 2010 Jayco Jayflight G2 32BHDS. We had been looking for about 6 months and when we found this at a show, we were sold. Our Dealer, Triangle RV went the extra mile to make sure we were pleased with our purchase, can't say enough about them. It's our first trailer, and it's a big one. Love the options that came with it, almost everything we would have asked for if we had ordered it.

We are towing it with 2009 GMC Sierra 2500HD 6.0.

Can't wait for our Maiden Voyage, but Mother Nature is keeping us home in Martinsburg WV.

Yeah, we definitely went "all in" with a 32 footer. But we have 3 kids and really wanted a trailer that would take care of us for a long time. Lucky us, we have this Forum and lots og friends to help us out.

Because you are starting with a 32ft trailer I have one important caution--be extra careful pulling into and out of gas stations. I know of several owners of longer trailers that have turned too sharply leaving a gas station and smacked a gas pump or a column or a guard post with the rear of their trailer. It seems the most common reason was that the driver turned too sharply to the right or left before the back of the trailer cleared the obstacle.

Unfortunately, I speak from personal experience. The damage to my trailer was cosmetic--the trailer barely kissed a guard post but I had to spend some time and elbow grease removing yellow paint from the rear corner of my trailer. It could have been much worse.

I was used to pulling a 27 foot trailer and our new trailer is 29 ft. That extra two feet contributed to the mishap.

Fortunately my wife and I are both experinced drivers of larger vehicles, fire trucks to be exact. I have a Class A CDL, however someone has always been driving the back of those trucks. I know this doesn't make us experts, and we will probably make mistakes just like anyone else. The appreciate any advice you guys can offer us. Thanks

I remember my first time out with a RENTED 30 foot travel trailer. As I was pulling out from the gas pumps, my copilot warned me to watch the tail end. Thank God for that warning as my tail end was just inches from striking the pump. God bless all the wonderful copilots out there.

I'm glad you guys pointed that one out, I'm sure I would have found out the hard way. Not used to having that swing out.

Congratulations on your new rig, I also have 3 kids, girls and thats the one I wanted unfortunately it wouldn't fit on our driveway so I had to downsize to our 26bhs but It suits us fine. Its great that your used to driving longer vehicles thats definitely gonna help, but like the others said, always watch that back end, it can swing out wider than you think at the last second. I was in a campground watching a rig pull out and he had the rear living room with a big bay window at the back end and as he turned all of a sudden the back end swung out wider than even us on lookers expected and he connected with a small tree. He ended up ripping open his whole back end of the trailer where your could see right in to the inside. I think its always best to have your co-pilot outside the trailer spotting as you pull out. An extra pair of eyes doesn't hurt. Well best of luck with all your endeavors, I can't wait for the nice weather, were itching to get camping. Take care
