yeah...like that will work.

OK - tonight I managed to destroy the generator compartment door on my 2005 Greyhawk 29GS. (I thought it would go well with the delamination effect.)

I walked out half-asleep to try and get cool, went into the RV and decided to open the slide. I had to change the oil today and had the compartment door propped open with a broom handle and the slide destroyed the compartment door while trying to open. Slide had some minor corner damage that I can repair - but the door was ripped half-off and is bent away from the frame. It is beyond repair and needs replacement.

Is there a site/market etc for replacement of damaged Greyhawk parts/doors? I'm assuming there must be salvage or used parted-out Greyhawks out there somewhere.

I will contact Jayco in the morning - but thought I would ask here first. I share all my bone-headed actions here first.... :-(

Have I mentioned how awesome this forum is?

I found an old thread that had links to exactly what I think I need - although I'll have tor take some measurements in the morning to be sure. The compartment doors are actually surprisingly reasonable.

Next question though - who would you have install the new door...? Is this something that a competent auto shop can do? Does it really need to go to an RV repair shop? I am also assuming since this was the generator compartment that some additional heat-resistant material will also be needed on the door...

Beginning to think maybe I just need to buy a salvage Greyhawk to have available for parts...lol!

May not be pertinent but I remember reading of some modifications to the doors to allow more cooling air into the compartment.

This might be a good time to check on that also along with the door.

When we had out 08 SENECA, I sort of had a similar "boo boo". I was able to reinstall one of the compartment doors myself so I would guess the Greyhawk door won't be to difficult. You could reach out to Motorized and they may be able to give you some guidance.

The Geny door is normally built the same as the rest of the doors. I've never seen any extra heat protection.

Safety Upgrade!

It DOES get wicked hot under there - so - I can see where more ventilation/protection could be a very good thing.


I like this. Now, I'm not doing repair work caused by my own (fill-in-the-blank) - I'm doing a "safety upgrade"!

Try https://bontragers.com/ - Don't go just by what's on their site. Call them and ask. They have a ton of surplus parts...

And by the way, tell your "friend" without pictures it never happened.

My 2016 Genny door is solid - no vents. And there were a slew of threads about whether a grille/vent should be added. Many folks did the mod, I'd guess most didn't.

I didn't care much until my generator blew itself up, threw the rod. The *only* thing I can think of is that we were in Las Vegas Heat at the time. Not a smoking gun, but...

A few posts quoted Onan as >supposedly< saying, that a vent should be properly ducted so to generator can suck air in. In other words, don't just cut a hole in the door.

After all that reading, I'm not sure what the right course of action is. It appears Jayco themselves get confused as my 2016 doesn't have a grille but some 2017/18's did.

[ These days, when we stop someplace hot with the genny running, I'll usually open the door and prop it open. But low enuff to miss the slide. ]
