Awning Issue

Can someone help me with an awning issue? My #2 awning wouldn't close all the way. A closer look is showing this thing sticking out which prevents it from closing all the way. What's wrong with this?????

That is called an anti-sail device!
It prevents the awning from unravelling in a strong wind while travelling down the road. Have you had work on the awning recently? If it has had work then anti-sail was not reinstalled properly.
I only learned it's purpose when we had ours retensioned at the dealer. The tech was very knowledgeable. The retensioning did not fix the pooling of water on top but moving the mount point up 2-3 inches did!

That is an Anti billowing arm. Not sure if even does anything. When the awning is closed, it should be no closer to the trailer than straight up. Looks like it may have come loose. 2 screws and it comes off very easily.

So what needs to be done? I've never seen it sticking out before. And it prevents the awning from being rolled up completely.

I would climb a ladder and see if one screw is missing and it has flipped around. If not take it off
Then cycle awning in and out and back in. Then reattach. Just ensure it clears side of trailer.
Straight up is correct but slightly pitched in or out is fine

Pitch out is better then in. That way it will not hit.

The anti sail device is to prevent the awning roller and material from unrolling while travelling down the road. I have them on all 3 slide toppers. I don't have them on my electric awning. Not sure if they are needed on the awning because of the electric motor seams to have a park lock in it.
Slide toppers are just spring loaded like the old house blinds. Those springs can be overpowered by a cross wind and unfurl.

Yes, sorry, I understood what it does. Just not sure how to fix it. I picture me removing one screw and the whole damn awning unrolling!

There are just two screws holding it to the roller.
It strikes me funny yours is stopping the awning from retracting a the way. Something is amiss. That's why I suggested a ladder and check that both screws are in place. If one screw fell out and it flipped around might explain the issue

I only noticed it when we got back from Houston today. I was tired and hot. Got up on the ladder and took pictures and went home. I'll look at it tomorrow and see what I've got. I'll update once that's done. Thanks for the help. From all too, thanks.
