We have picked up a serious "squeak-screach" when closing the awning on our WhiteHawk 33 RSKS. I can't find any info on lube for the piston shaft, if indeed we should. Anyone else have this issue? Can I oil/lube/WD40 the shaft?
Thanks

I have a 184bh and have the same question. I don't have a lot of squeak and screech but the power awning sticks a little. Awnings are expensive and I want to keep it maintenanced properly.

If you have Carefree awnings there was a problem with some of the struts and they replaced them under warrantee. We had to replaced ours due to a sticking/noisey problem. Carefree was very good about it and sent them direct to me and I did the change-out myself.

I keep mine clean and spray a little silicone spray on all the moving points. I spray the piston when it is fully open then use a small piece of cloth or large string, kinda like when you used to start a fire with a string and a stick as a boy scout.
A few times over it and it polishes it up and gets any crud off.

It does seem to help with the noise from all the moving parts.

The only noise from the pistons themselves will be quite limited: Urethane seal rubbing on a chrome plated rod. Don't bother looking there.

However, all the steel and bronze plain bearings will produce all kinds of lovely sounds when they go dry!

Silicone spray (or WD-40 or 2-in-1 etc.) all the joints and things will quiet down nicely!

When the awning arms start failing to open (7-10 years of use) then look to replacing the struts.

Now that's a great idea with the cloth or string looks like I'm on it today.
