Awning strut lubrication?

My Solera power awning occasionally makes a chattering noise when I retract it — sounds like it’s the piston in the strut. Is it OK to spray a little silicone lube on the piston rod when fully extended? Then wipe it clean? I have used it on the hinge points and track.

Yes you can. They can get a little dry being out in the elements.

While you are at it, clean and lube the track that the arm rides in. Typically I do it once year. If I am in a really dirty environment, it seams to need cleaning twice a year.

If it does not move, but should, use WD-40
If it does move, but should not, use Duct Tape
