looking for suggestions for the straps that go around the battery box to hold the lid on.

the nylon ones eventually broke, replaced with rubber bungy type strap, those also eventually broke.

know any strap that can withstand the sun and not deteriorate?

ideas?

I’m happy if I get 3 years out of mine and they get a lot of hot sun in the summer. I just replace them when they are getting tired. They’re cheap. I’m not sure there’s much else that will last any better and not be a lot more expensive.

I've been using a long piece of black 12awg wire. Been using the same piece for the last 8+ years.

I had an old load strap that I used for years before going lithium and moving it inside. A lot more secure on bumpy roads!

Resurrecting the thread to see what you guys are currently using. The original ones I was using to secure my 2 house batteries broke and got a replacement Lipper strap from Amazon (cheaply made and expensive) and they broke after 3 months.. metals corroded and buckle broke as well... I do have the metal pieces .. not sure if I can use something else along with the metal pieces.. or if there is a replacement strap that is plug and play.

Attwood from Amazon are less than $8 each for 54”. Good for a few years, then buy two more. They do the job for my two battery boxes.

Thanks Lucky. Ordered 2... hopefully those will last longer than the last ones I bough for 45 bucks.

Not much will withstand the effects of sun and the elements. We welded a couple of tabs to the bottom of the battery tray and just use a flat bungee cord to hold down the lid. I just replace it every 2 years, only costs a couple of bucks. We also take it off when the trailer will be stored for more than a few weeks. This helps to extend the life of the bungee.

I use a metal pipe hanger/strap, held together with a bolt and a nut:

It also has the advantage that you'd need at least a screwdriver to access the batteries, making them a little more burglar-proof.

It has held up well for 5 years now.

If your rig is exposed to the elements year-round, whatever you use is going to be sacrificial unless it’s metal or Kevlar or something. Mine’s under a cover all winter and some parts of summer, so 15 bucks every 3 or 4 years is no biggie.

Formed right, you could actually use a small padlock to hold together. Even more burglar-proof.

I've been using these nylon anti-UV straps with stainless steel buckles for the past 6 years and they still look great, however my rig is stored inside during the winter months. I just wrap a big loop around the covered battery box and the frame that it's sitting on. The spring clamp keeps them secure and the end of the strap is tied in a loop at the end to keep it out of the way. They're cheep enough to replace whenever needed which I already know won't be their seventh year of service.
