Why not just pull the master fuse at the battery box? Much easier and CHEAPER

Most trailers don't have a master fuse that you can pull. I know on ours it is a small 30 amp auto reset breaker and not a fuse. Most are like this now I think.

The only fuse on ours is to the power jack.

I'm thinking of installing an auto reset breaker instead of the fuse, but one reason I put in the switch is that we have to keep up with the fuse once we remove it, switch is simpler.

I have installed versions of this type of switch on my off road vehicles and travel trailers for years. Simply install the switch between the main ground and the main connection to the negative battery post.

The switch is designed to handle the arcing that may occur when turned, it is weather resistant, and can be mounted to the battery box itself, on a bracket on the frame, or virtually anywhere else you want to place it. I'll snap a picture of the recent mounting I did on my smaller travel trailer and update this post with a second image in the next day or so.

You can have both. Get a manual resetting breaker. Technically, you are not supposed to use breakers as an on/off device, but for the limited use they will see in a trailer disconnect circuit they will be fine. You can find these on amazon, they are waterproof and have lugs that are big to attach proper sized wires to them.

If you are interested in a automatic breaker and manual disconnect combined in one package, you may want to look at this produce. I use Dell City for a lot of my electrical needs (switches, terminals.....). I do not think that this model can be mounted on the outside.

This is the actual install on the 2016 Travel Trailer I just replaced.

This is what I used on our Hummingbird. Note that I did not run the emergency brake switch wire through this disconnect switch.

I made a steel mounting plate for under the switch.
